KAYAKING DOWN THE SELLA RIVER
The Descent of the Sella in canoe or kayak is one of the most popular adventure sports activities in Asturias. This activity is well known thanks to the International Descent of the Sella, a sporting event that brings together sportsmen and women from all corners of the world every first Saturday in August.
The activity consists of getting into a kayak or canoe, in complete safety, to go down the river Sella from Arriondas to Toraño (one of the arrival points they have set up).
Is this activity suitable for everyone?
Of course. To do the descent in canoe you only need to know how to swim and want to have a great adventure. You don't need to be in extraordinary physical shape.
There are double and single canoes.
IMPORTANT: Each participant must come with swimwear, a swimming costume, T-shirt, sun cream, shoes that can get wet (NO FLIP-FLOPS) and a towel for the showers.
ADVICE:
Is it expected to be sunny? Don't forget to wear a hat to protect your head and sun protection. On very sunny days, watch your legs. Remember that the water reflects the sunlight and although you may feel cool thanks to the river, the sun has its own rules.
If you wear glasses, it is a good idea to use a strap to hold them in place and avoid the disappointment of seeing them fall into the water.
You can take your phone or smartphone with you, but a protective waterproof case is highly recommended.
Wear comfortable shoes which you are prepared to get wet. Old, closed trainers will do. We advise against flip-flops.
On the river Sella you will find fantastic river beaches where you can stop to rest, eat and enjoy a peaceful swim, so don’t forget your swimming costume.
